The Healing Power of Music with Marta Aznavoorian

ABOUT THE MASTER CLASS

Celebrated pianist and Music Institute of Chicago artist in residence Marta Aznavoorian offers a special class to Chicagoland schools. Aznavoorian begins with a powerful performance of Repair the World, by Chicago-area composer Stacy Garrop. A brief discussion with students on how the healing power of music can calm, support, and help us make human connections follows. Next, student enjoy a traditional piano master class with special focus on the finer details of technique, tone, and phrasing, all while inspiring and motivating students.

ABOUT MARTA AZNAVOORIAN

Armenian/American pianist Marta Aznavoorian has been teaching and performing for over 25 years. Known for her inspired playing and vast emotional reach, the multi Grammy-nominated artist has performed to critical acclaim throughout the world as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Winner of numerous awards and accolades, Aznavoorian has recorded extensively for Naxos, Warner Classics, Erato, and Cedille Records.

Aznavoorian is a dedicated educator and has given lectures and master classes to students of all ages and levels.  She currently serves on faculty at DePaul University and the Music Institute of Chicago, where she is also Artist in Residence. Aznavoorian received her Bachelor Degree and Artist Diploma at Indiana University and Masters Degree from New England Conservatory. She is a Steinway Artist.
