Virtual Jazz Lecture Series
May 24, 2021 at 7 pm | Jazz Improvisation: The Evolution of Storytelling with trumpeter Victor Garcia
Each session will be led by a world-renowned artist from the Music Institute jazz faculty and will include recordings, video clips, historical information and personal insights from each presenter. The sessions will conclude with a chat discussion. Audrey Morrison, Jazz Studies Program Director, will be the host for each session.
About Victor Garcia
Examiner.com’s Neil Tesser calls him “one of the most exciting young musicians.” Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich says that he “stands out as an ebullient soloist offering a formidable technique and a radiantly polished tone.” JazzChicago.net’s Brad Walseth regards him as a “young lion trumpeter.”
Music Institute of Chicago jazz faculty member Victor Garcia is both versatile and creative. In addition to trumpet, he sings, plays percussion, and composes. He had held positions at Roosevelt University, Loyola University and the University of Illinois in Chicago.
He’s performed and worked with many jazz greats including: Aretha Franklin, Arturo Sandoval, Spoon, Monty Alexander, Wynton Marsalis, Victor Manuelle, Nicholas Payton, La India, the Temptations, Steve Turre, BeBe Winans, Tito Puente, Jr., Paquito d’Rivera, Randy Brecker, Branford Marsalis, and Dr. John. Victor has recorded on dozens of albums, three of them Grammy-nominated.
