2017 Classics Alive Young Artists Competitions

Two Music Institute of Chicago students were prize winners in the 2017 Classics Alive young Artist Competition held at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Winners are selected based on exceptional musicianship, technique, ability to communicate as a performer, and future potential.
Judges included: pianist Moye Chen, Colburn Orchestra Music director Yehuda Gilad, cellist Antonio Lysy, Director of String Studies at California Luther University in LA Yoshika Masuda, USC Thornton School of Music pianist Alan Smith, and pianist Gillian Smith.
Division D – ages 9 and under
First Prize: David Dai, age 9, Suzuki piano student of Christina Tio
Division C – ages 10-13
Second Prize: Matthew Hahn, age 10, Suzuki piano student of Christina Tio
