Academy Chamber Musicians Shine

March 27, 2023

The Academy’s robust chamber music program has resulted in numerous national competition gold, silver and bronze medals since its inception in 2006.  This year is no exception. Most recently the Goya Piano Trio (pictured above) took 1st Place in the Strings & Piano Division of the Eleventh Annual A.N. and Pearl G. Barnett Chamber Music Competition. The trio, coached by Mark George and Claudia Lasareff-Mironoff includes: Lily Sullivan, violin, Serge Kalinovsky, cello and Noah Kim, piano. The Pelios String Quartet placed second. Coached by Rodolfo Vieira, this quartet features Ellen Zhou and Clark Snavely, violins, Tristan Zhu, viola, and Amelia Zitoun, cello.

With the Barnett Chamber Music Competition win, Goya achieved a "three-peat," having won the Rembrandt Chamber Musicians 28th Annual Chamber Music Competition and the String and Piano Category of the Chicago National Chamber Competition earlier this year. Lily and Serge travel to the Academy each Saturday from Indianapolis, IN.

The Pelios String Quartet (pictured above) and the Calcifer String Quartet (pictured below) will compete as Finalists in the 2023 Saint Paul String Quartet Competition (SPSQC) on April 22, and as Quarterfinalists in the 50th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, IN on May 15. Each Saturday, Pelios members Ellen, Clark, and Amelia travel to the Academy from cities in WI, while Kana Aihara travels from Roseville, MN. Also recognized for their successful year as a Quarterfinalist in Fischoff is the Luminos Piano Trio (pictured below), coached by Sung Hoon Mo and Sarah Plum, and comprised of Lauren Kim, violin, Lucy Wu, cello, and Matthew Hahn, piano. Lucy travels from Whitefish Bay, WI.

We are very proud of all eight Academy ensembles and their many accomplishments this year, and grateful to our Academy coaches who are incredibly committed to our students.
