Adult Student Spotlight: Judy McCue

Adult Student Spotlight: Judy McCue

"I'm getting dressed one morning in my bedroom, listening as I do to WFMT, and heard an announcement from the Music Institute of Chicago that said ' you're never too old to learn a musical instrument.' And that was what I needed to hear on that day."

If you're looking for a sign to pick up a new skill, our students' journeys may be just what you need to hear

Meet Judy McCue, Our Adult Student Spotlight!

Background: Growing up in Philadelphia, Judy's first encounter with the violin didn't leave a lasting impression. Nevertheless, Van Cliburn's influence kept her passion for classical music alive. Life's demands took over until retirement when a radio announcement from the Music Institute of Chicago reignited her enthusiasm. Judy embarked on piano lessons with Keiko Alexander, later transitioning to Marie Alatalo, transforming her home's dormant piano into a cherished companion.

Balance: Judy juggles music with daily life and admits that sometimes she'll go through her day and realize she hasn't practiced. This only motivates Judy more, as she works to fit practicing earlier in the day and cherishes every moment spent at the piano.

Motivation: Judy's commitment to being prepared for her lessons with Marie fuels her motivation. Acknowledging her progress, Judy values the inspiration Marie provides, making each lesson an enriching experience.

Impact: Learning music heightened Judy's appreciation for live performances, adding a new layer to her concert experiences. From piano recitals to operas, attending performances remains a vital part of Judy's life, enhancing her enjoyment and understanding of the art.
