Our campuses may be closed but the Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) is open for business online. MIC’s stellar faculty is delivering hundreds of music lessons each week on the Zoom interactive videoconference platform. Lessons in piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds and brass are all available. Student recitals are occurring as planned. Even group classes, such as Musicianship, Musikgarten, and Roots & Rock, are being offered regularly. Register here for music lessons and classes.
Concerts and events at Nichols Concert Hall and other MIC performance venues are postponed at least through May. Stay tuned for announcements of future performances and sign up for MIC e-news.
Many people, especially senior citizens, are suffering from unprecedented isolation and loneliness. MIC students are here to help. If you are a senior citizen, sign up to have MIC students play a piece of music for you by videoconference, FaceTime, or a simple telephone call.
The Music Institute of Chicago intends to return to normal in-person operation as soon as it is safe to do so. We understand that MIC plays an important role in the lives of our students and others in the community. With that in mind we will continue to find responsible and creative ways to accomplish our mission to lead people toward a lifelong engagement with music by providing widely accessible resources for high-quality music teaching, performing, and service activities. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.
Finally, the Music Institute of Chicago is committed to maintaining full compensation and benefits for our full and part-time faculty and staff. This is an enormous challenge, but we are determined to fulfill our mission and support our teachers, especially in these very difficult times. The MIC Board of Trustees has established the Nichols COVID-19 Support Fund. A contribution of any amount to this fund will help us support our teachers and ensure that the Music Institute is strong when we celebrate our 90th anniversary in 2021. Thank you so much.
