Julian Rhee featured on PianoArts Concert

Music Institute of Chicago violinist Julian Rhee will perform with the PianoArts North American Competition and Music Festival on their upcoming "Music in Vienna" concert June 12. A student of Hye-Sun Lee, fourteen year-old Julian Rhee is already making his mark on the musical world and has won numerous awards. Among his 2015 awards is the first place prize winner of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition, Audrey G. Baird Scholarship recipient, and soloist on the MSO’s “Stars of Tomorrow” concert. Other awards include the Madison Symphony Orchestra’s Bolz Young Artist Competition that included soloing on the Final Forte concert with the symphony, broadcast live by Wisconsin Public Television and Radio; the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Senior Symphony Concerto Competition; the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition; Concord Chamber Orchestra Walter A. and Dorothy J. Oestreich Concerto Competition; and the Menomonee Falls Young Artist Concerto Competition. In 2014, Julian won the Junior String Division and Overall Junior Division of the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, as well as the 2011 and 2013 Madison Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition. He won both the Junior and Senior Divisions of the Sejong Music Competition sponsored by the Korea Times of Chicago. At age twelve, he was the youngest semifinalist of the 2013 Stradivarius International Violin Competition. He was also one of only three American violinists who represented the United States and advanced to the semifinals during the prestigious 2015 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players in Washington, D.C. In July 2015, Julian will participate as a semifinalist in the prestigious Thomas & Evon Cooper International Violin Competition.
Julian has performed on Wisconsin Public Radio and is a frequent performer at Steinway Piano Gallery of Milwaukee. His upcoming performances will include a solo with the Madison Symphony Orchestra for “Music on The Green on June 22 and with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra’s “Concert on the Square” on June 24. In the 2015-16 season, he will appear on the Young Steinway Concert Series in Skokie, Illinois. Julian is a freshman at Brookfield East High School. He is concertmaster of the Milwaukee Youth Senior Symphony Orchestra. When not studying, practicing, or performing, Julian loves to read, play basketball, and enjoy video games.
