MIC faculty pianist featured on new CD
March 3rd, 2017
Reiko Yamada, a member of the piano faculty at the Music Institute of Chicago, is featured on a new CD release by King Records. The recording spotlights four concerti by Japanese composer Akira Ifukube. Ifukube is best known as the composer of the score for the original Godzilla film, but was also a highly respected and prolific composer of classical music. The new CD was recorded by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michiyoshi Inoue. Ms. Yamada is the soloist on the work entitled Ritmica Ostinata per Pianoforte ed Orchestra. Of her performance, Ryosuke Masuda wrote in the December 2016 issue The Record Geijutsu, "Ritmica prominently makes use of driving rhythms, which are almost percussion-like, and Yamada consistently displays her fierce and impeccable keystrokes. This is quite simply a powerful, stirring performance."
In addition to her duties at the Music Institute of Chicago, Ms. Yamada serves as principal keyboard for the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and supplimental keyboard for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
