MIC students selected for National Youth Orchestra

Congratulations to Community Music School student Garrett Chou and Academy student Giancarlo Latta, who were both recently selected to become members of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA).   Each summer, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute brings together 120 talented young players from across the country to form this special orchestra.  As a members of the NYO-USA Garrett and Giancarlo will have the opportunity to work with director James Ross and principal players from some of America's top orchestras during a residency at Purchase College in New York.  Following the residency, the orchestra begins a international tour led by maestro Valery Gergiev and featuring violinist Joshua Bell.  The orchestra will perform and serve as dynamic musical ambassadors in some of the great music capitals of the world including Washington, DC., St. Petersburg, Moscow and London.

Garrett, age 17, is a cello student of David Cunliffe at the Highland Park campus. Giancarlo Latta, 17, is a violin student of Almita Vamos at the Academy.
