Music Institute Students Triumph at 2024 Sejong Music Competition

The Music Institute of Chicago experienced great success at the recent Sejong Music Competition, with violin and piano students from its Academy, a pre-conservatory training program, and Community Music School earning honors in multiple divisions.
The goals of the competition are to discover talented young musicians and encourage them in their studies, as well as introduce traditional Korean music expressed through Western media. The Music Institute students have participated in the competition since 2006.
Music Institute 2024 winners are as follows:
Violin Senior Division
First place and Best Interpretation of a Korean piece: Emily Chen*, 15, Arlington Heights (teachers Almita Vamos and Injoo Choi)
Second place: Aiden Yu, 15, Chicago (teacher Davis King)
Finalist: Elle Cho*, 15, Park Ridge (teacher Almita Vamos)
Violin Junior Division
First place and Best Interpretation of a Korean piece: Ingrid Updegraff, 14, Wilmette (teacher Davis King)
Third place: Xiruo Wang, 12, Chicago (teacher Davis King)
Violin Elementary Division
Second place: George Wang, 11, Chicago (teacher Davis King)
Best Interpretation of a Korean piece: Tentana Kahar, 10, Chicago (teacher Davis King)
Piano Senior Division
First Place and Best Interpretation of a Korean piece: Edie Park*, 15, Chicago (teachers Winston Choi and Marta Aznavoorian)
