Dr. Mark George

The Music Institute of Chicago announces that, after 15 years of dedicated service, Dr. Mark George is stepping down as President and CEO. The Music Institute has begun a national search for its next leader, who will take the organization into its next century of success.

“MIC extends its appreciation and gratitude to Dr. George for his passion and commitment in fulfilling MIC’s mission of leading people toward a lifelong engagement with music,” said Board of Trustees Chair Scott Verschoor. “His many contributions will leave a positive imprint on MIC for years to come. We wish him success as he pursues other endeavors.”

During the transition to new leadership, George will consult on the Music Institute’s Gala Benefit, which takes place May 13, 2025. To ensure a seamless transition, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Sue Polutnik will assume interim leadership for the operations and internal affairs. Verschoor continued, “We appreciate the dedication and commitment of MIC’s outstanding senior leadership team as we make this transition and look forward to building on MIC’s positive impact in the community.”
