Joshua Brown, 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant Recipient

The Academy Celebrates Joshua Brown, Winner of the 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant!

Former Academy violin student of Almita and Roland Vamos, Class of 2018, and NEC Concert Artist, Joshua Brown ’22, ’24 MM, ’26 AD, student of Donald Weilerstein, has been award the 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant.  Administered by Lincoln Center, this is an annual award of $25,000 given to up to five outstanding instrumentalists and chamber ensembles with the potential for significant careers in classical music.  Prior to this award, Joshua won 2nd Prize and both Audience Awards at the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, 1st Prize at the inaugural 2023 Global Music Education International Violin Competition in Beijing, China, and 1st Prize and Audience Award at the 2019 International Violin Competition of Leopold Mozart in Augsburg, Germany. 

Joshua and his family  moved from the east coast to Chicago to study with Roland and Almita Vamos at the Academy, where brother Nicholas and sister Isabella, also violinists, were all active Academy students for many years, performing and competing throughout the Chicago Area.
