Dozens of applicants participated in the Lakeview Orchestra 2022 Young Artist Competition. We are proud of the Academy students who participated and their fine showing:
Second Place: Jan Vargas Nedvetsky, cello (performing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major)
Honorable Mention: Esme Arias-Kim, violin (performing Korngold's Violin Concerto in D major)
Honorable Mention: Sidney Lee, viola (performing Bartok's Viola Concerto)
Gregory Hughes, Artistic Director & General Manager founded Lakeview Orchestra in January of 2013 and rapidly established the ensemble as the premiere volunteer orchestra in the City of Chicago. Former Academy winners include Isabella Brown (2019) and Esme Arias-Kim (2017). Janis Sakai, Violin Concertmaster of the orchestra, is an MIC alumna and was in the inaugural class of the Academy in 2006.
