Spotlight on Chicago Music Teachers
Meet Ke Wang and Dr. Yuyoung Chung
January 30th, 2025
With two convenient locations in downtown Chicago—St. James and Gratz Center—the Music Institute of Chicago offers a wide range of music education, from flute, violin, and piano lessons to music theory classes. Situated in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, these two locations provide the perfect setting to hone your musical skills after school or work. Today, we’re excited to spotlight piano teacher Ke Wang and cello instructor Dr. Yuyoung Chung.
Ke Wang
Pianist Ke Wang holds a B.M. and M.M. from The Juilliard School and is currently a D.M.A. candidate at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. In 2023, he won several prestigious awards, including the Concerto/Aria Competition at Northwestern University and the Prize Antena 2/SIPO in Portugal. Ke's recent album, a collaboration with Juilliard alumni, reflects his passion for historical performance and chamber music.
Ke’s teaching philosophy emphasizes music as a universal language and that it is deeply related to other disciplines. He believes learning music can cultivate one’s curiosity and creativity to discover and understand different parts of the world and, therefore, is beneficial for all people.
Dr. Yuyoung Chung
Cellist Dr. Yuyoung Chung, a native of Korea, has performed worldwide as a soloist and with prestigious ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony and Milwaukee Symphony. She has collaborated with renowned musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Riccardo Muti.
She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and has been recognized with numerous awards, such as first place at the Courchevel Music Alp Festival. Dr. Chung’s teaching philosophy focuses on developing musical skills and character in her students.
