Introducing the Music Institute's New Resident Ensembles

New this season, the Music Institute welcomes five Resident Ensembles to Nichols Concert Hall! These exceptional groups include: Apollo's Fire, Chicago a cappella, Civitas Ensemble, The Orion Ensemble, and Rembrandt Chamber Musicians. These talented ensembles will be performing throughout the 2024-25 season, bringing a diverse range of musical styles to our stage.
Apollo's Fire
GRAMMY® winners Apollo's Fire, led by Jeannette Sorrell, are renowned for their passionate and historically informed performances of Baroque music. With their expertise in period instruments, they bring the music of the past to life for audiences of today. This season, embark on a journey through the Baroque era, from the exhilarating virtuosity of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos to a festive celebration of the holiday season.
Chicago a cappella
Chicago a cappella is a dynamic group known for their innovative arrangements and impeccable harmonies. This season, they will present three distinct concert series: Lamentations, Holidays a cappella, and Jazz a cappella. From the poignant beauty of "Lamentations" to the festive spirit of "Holidays a cappella" and the energetic rhythms of "Jazz a cappella," their performances offer a diverse and captivating experience.
Civitas Ensemble
Founded in 2011, Civitas Ensemble is a leading chamber music group in Chicago. They present a wide range of repertoire, from historical classics to contemporary works. This season, enjoy their performances celebrating the genius of Anton Bruckner and the festive joy of the holiday season.
The Orion Ensemble
The Orion Ensemble is a renowned chamber music group known for their exciting interpretations of standard repertoire and their commitment to introducing audiences to rarely performed masterpieces. This season, they will perform iconic works by Bruch, Schubert, Dvorák, Strauss, and Mozart, as well as lesser-known pieces by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Shostakovich, and contemporary composers.
Rembrandt Chamber Musicians
Rembrandt Chamber Musicians is a highly accomplished ensemble featuring three of the most talented musicians in the Chicago area. Their expansive repertoire spans from baroque classics to contemporary works. This season, enjoy captivating narratives, festive traditions, the passionate interplay of violin and piano, and the rich heritage of Czech masterworks.
The Music Institute of Chicago is proud to host these five exceptional ensembles at Nichols Concert Hall as part of our commitment to enriching the Evanston community. The Resident Ensembles will allow our students the unique opportunity to experience world-class ensembles for free, a continued perk of being an MIC student.
